Thank you, Dr. Ash, Your clear-headed thinking on European events is welcomed indeed. I was very glad to know you are now one of U24s ambassadors. We have long supported Dr. Snyder's campaigns - it's good to know we are now also supporting yours! Slava Ukraini!

Thank you for the excellent essay. It's disappointing that Europe continues to be incoherent and inert about Ukraine support. I hope that Pres. Niinistö's advice is heard.

Dear Dr. Ash,

As I kept reading this heart-stringing waffle of yours, I keep remembering the years, the long misbegotten years, in which I truly believed the erudite shibboleths about something call the “liberal international order”. In which you, and many folks of liberal commentators clique in the west, kept on intoning to the rest of us "unwashed plebeians" . And in particularly how those "lofty principles" are the best "restraining laws" that we ever likely to get. Specifically in a world where might shouldn't be the right that determines what nations should be allowed to get away with. But, rather, laws, dignity, peace, self-determination, and "do-no-harm-to-others", ought to be the most "enlightened principle" in which humanity should organized itself around it.

But, now, lo and behold, when we daily see the ongoing deliberate genocide of the Palestinians, and when I see how the Western's world is falling over itself in not only arming the criminal regime in Israel, but politically and diplomatically, offering them a protection at the United Nations, I got a real sick in the bottom of my stomach. And in particularly of how foolish I must have been to ever have believed that long seductive lullaby in which a version of its "chorus" you are now selling in here with this article.

And that is doubly painful to me to accept it, at least as British Muslim, who came of age and voted the first time in the 2019 UK's general election.

So, Dr. Ash, with all due respect, I would only say in here that the day you deign to notice the ongoing genocide of the brown and Muslim people in Palestine, and indeed, may even disturb yourself - as you contentedly keep on sitting on that high horse of a Western's liberalism - to write about them and their blight (just once!) will be the day I shall forced myself to have a half of a mind to listen to this sort of “sonorous sermons” about the price of dignity and the color of freedom where the hapless Ukrainians are concern.

But till that day, I would only say: keep this kind of glaring hypocrisy and this sort of nauseating double-standard to a sotto-voce sense of it. Or failing that, then keep it to the sort of “emotional liberal groupies”, who you think will probably form a long line outside of your lecture room in Oxford, just to swallow it this kind of stale screech.

Regards,

Ibrahim.
