I’m in the US. Thank you Professor. Your analysis gives me hope, as does Canada’s turn to the world stage. The confrontation in this country between typical Americans & America’s oligarchs was probably inevitable, certainly overdue. Much of Trump’s cult are the result of misplaced anger, as you note. It’s easier to attack “those people” than to confront the enormous power that’s been accumulating.

It was a long term plan by the right wing authoritarians, manifested at last in Project 2025 & boosted since Reagan, by Reagan, then Fox, then social media. It’s too bad it took the rise of such a destructive gang led by Trump for so many Americans to catch on. Actually publishing Project 2025 helped. While the Democratic Party seems mostly at loose ends, solidarity is building & there may be a chance to beat back this oligarchical behemoth, with either a rebuilt Dem party or one that is left behind. In fact, maybe both too solidly entrenched parties can & will be left behind. And that would be a good thing

As retired physician, I shudder at the business like delivery of medical care in the US.
